This Arduino binary counter project will help you count from 0 to 7 with Arduino Uno. The project uses three LEDs to simulate the binary counter. This is a simple and cool way of learning or practicing binary with Arduino microcontrollers.<\/p>\n

LED projects<\/a> are a good way for starters to learn how to program Arduino.<\/p>\n

How the Arduino Binary Counter Works<\/h4>\n

The table shows the binary equivalent of decimal numbers from 0 to 7;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

LED1 is the least significant bit (on the right) while LED 3 is the most significant bit (on the left).<\/p>\n

The 1’s in the table indicate which LED turns on at a given time. Red circles show the LEDs that are on.<\/p>\n

A delay of 1s is experienced between each count.<\/p>\n

You will require;<\/p>\n

1 x Arduino Uno<\/p>\n

A-B Arduino USB cable<\/p>\n

3 x 1k ohm Resistors (You can use 330 ohms for more brightness)<\/p>\n

Jumper wires<\/p>\n

A mini breadboard<\/p>\n

Instructions for Arduino Binary counter Project<\/h4>\n

Connect the circuit as shown above.<\/p>\n

  • Fix the LEDs on the breadboard<\/li>\n
  • Connect the resistor from the cathode of one LED to the common ground on the breadboard<\/li>\n
  • Repeat this for the other 2 LEDs<\/li>\n
  • Connect the LED on your right to pin 7 of Arduino<\/li>\n
  • Connect the next LEd to pin 8<\/li>\n
  • Next, connect the other LED, on your left, to pin 9 of Arduino<\/li>\n
  • Finally, run a cable from GND of Arduino to the common ground on the breadboard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
